A respected painter and illustrator who has had a number of exhibitions in Yorkshire, Cumbria & the Scottish Borders where his Landscape & Wildlife studies are highly sought after.

Born in Cumberland (now Cumbria) he spent his formative years with his grandparents, in the Eden Valley, who developed his knowledge of nature and his love of wildlife. He studied Fine Art at Carlisle College of Art. After completing his course at college, he worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for various publishing houses.

He entered the teaching profession in the late sixties as a senior lecturer in Fine Art & Illustration, and also served in the re-structuring of art education programmes, as a national assessor.

He retired from teaching in the early nineties, and now concentrates on his landscape & wildlife painting.

His landscape and wildlife studies may take several weeks to complete. He often re-visits these images, reworking them extensively before he is finally satisfied with the end result

At any one time there can be a number of pictures in progress and all are subject to continuous appraisal and reworking prior to reaching a conclusion.

Normally a painting starts from preliminary drawings, colour studies and occasionally from the artists original support photographs.

A range of media and techniques are used to establish mood and atmosphere. Finished artwork is normally completed in gouache, watercolour, pencil or conte crayon.
